tahoe snow update: february
By ccrossen | February 2, 2010

We have incoming… doesn’t look like a whole lot of snow right now, but at least it’s something. Forecasters and models are not fully in agreement right now, but it looks like we’ll have snow flurries/showers this evening into Weds, then again Weds evening into Thrs. After these first two brush-by systems, we’re looking at a larger low, Thursday evening into Friday, then another Saturday. These storms may miss us or may hit us. Right now the 5-day QPF (precip) forecast is calling for 3+ inches in the Tahoe area now through Saturday. Some forecasters are calling for 1-3 feet in Tahoe. There’s also the chance that the latter system will split as it hits Cali, sending the brunt of the moisture and energy south, way south of us, but possibly setting up another good storm for Mammoth/East Side. Next week looks like more of the same – no big game-changer, rather smaller storms every other day or so. Still hoping for elements to align and bring us another 90 inches in a week storm. Kindof a wait-wait-wait>charge! season so far.
Skiing on the higher north-facing aspects is staying great. Temps have been cool enough to keep the snow wintery/chalky. The backcountry is variable, but still holding in the right spots – along with everything else.
At least they’re getting it deep in Jackson and the Rockies…
