Decent right on Lake Tahoe from 1/15/2012 - Kenny Blum photo. Wind’s way up = weather’s changing = storm’s are coming! That was some cold surfing! Biggest challenge was the gale-force winds hammering from the S/SW. Tricky getting into the water via the rocks and not demoing your board. And riding with tropical wax and gloves. Beginning to think the ideal board for Tahoe is a 7′0″-7′6″ foamie fun shape for the very short period swell and the threat of banging your board to pieces on the rocks or in the trees. You can actually get decent softtops these days, with good fins. And it’s not like performance is critical. A guy with a longboard headed out with us, and the board was just too much sail. He ended up crumpling the nose on the rocks, a bummer to see. The other key ingredient is a 5/4 suit, 5mm booties, and a full hood with neck dam. For the handful of rideable days …

I love it. Pure Darwinism. Sometimes you have to adapt your feeding grounds. No evolution without mutation. An old 80’s twin would work good.
